The New Year is here and is the perfect time to use the beginning of the year to plan your social media for your business. If it is a quiet time for your business then that’s even better as you can use your downtime to get prepped for your busy times.

So where do we start?

As with any planning for social media, we need to ascertain WHY we are using social media for our business and what objectives we want to achieve.

Are we looking for customers? Are we looking to enhance our reputation? Do we want more leads?

So take some time to think about some achievable objectives for your business and then you can look at which elements of social media you need to work on.

Consider what your key messages are and which platforms will allow these messages to be shared in the best way, we want to encourage interaction with potential clients and we want to be seen as a professional and informative led platform where people can rely on what you say and enjoy your content.

Have a look at what you posted last year and see what worked well with your audience and see if there are any elements you can bring forward again for this next year, save you a lot of creative thinking potentially. This can often be achieved by looking at the specifics of your business year, the special points that are important to your industry?

For example, in hospitality, Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Easter, Bank Holidays, etc are high points to consider, which plotted through the year it can help you plan the content to support these, preparing for them, posting at the time and reflective posting after the event. When you start to build up these elements into your content planning it will help to develop a monthly/weekly plan to get you going.

Plotting this industry-specific, awareness days and previous successes into a monthly calendar and you can start to build up your content for the year.

Planning ahead and scheduling some content into your social media plans, will help take the pressure of day to day posting. We can help you it this process and provide some content calendar to help plan your content.
