I recently decided it was time to get a hand with my business as it continues to grow day by day. I did my research and discovered there was a lot of help and support out there for working with apprentices which could be beneficial to my business.

I put out some feelers using social media and was introduced to my training provider 3AAA based in Middlesbrough who were extremely proactive in discussing my options with me and enabling me to consider seriously the options I had on offer to recruit an apprentice in my industry.

I also took out some time to discuss these options with my local District Council Business Development team atHambleton District Council who were able to give additional advice and the options for getting additional funding for my apprentice. This was useful to know!

The Council is unable to provide personal recommendations on training providers, so I sought independent advice and heard only good things about the organisation I had spoken to. (They are all Ofsted inspected so you can also check them out online too.)

Developing a job description was easy and that certainly seemed to tick a lot of the boxes for the Level 3 Digital marketing apprentice that I was considering. Now I just had to find someone.

I spoke with my local schools and used the wonders of social media to get my apprentice offer out there. In addition, my training provider was a great support in searching and screening candidates suitable for my business.

Luckily, I had some strong applications and I was able to interview and successfully recruit a local lady to join my team. She started with me on 1st June after her initial induction with the Academy and two weeks on she is still with me! I am excited for the next 15 months we will spend together and already she feels a real asset to the business.

So don’t be disheartened by the negative stories about apprentices, mine so far has been fast, exciting and only a tad daunting experience. I am hoping my apprentice will be blogging frequently for the business in the soon, so watch out for her!
